The methodical compositions of Monika Žáková deconstruct the conventional ways of visual and perceptional information. Her elegant painting is motivated by an interest in the surface, depth and unstable character of spatial experience which she is continuously exploring. Blurring the division line between flatness and 3D, her canvases, built by spatial logic, bring a smooth and diverse alternative.
 
Žáková creates miscellaneous configurations by assembling and superimposing various elements based on an additive approach, confronting herself with its limitations. She employs a projection of logic, approaching it from the position of internal relations and perception of systematic character as well as that of a transcendental experience of harmony and equality.
 
Žáková‘s sophisticated analytical work is characterized by manic precision and motivated by a curiosity embracing visibility, illusion and craftsmanship. She puts an emphasis on the importance of the interconnection between the contextual and formal aspect of the work. She keeps revisiting the question of the surface. She deals with the properties of the used material (texture, rawness of paper) which keeps pushing its way to the surface through an imprint of a masking tape or a scratch of a knife blade, stimulating a sensory and emotional experience of the painting. The paintings also have a very demanding chromatic character.
 
Since the artist’s work can soften the distinction between 2D and 3D states of being, it could also imply the possibility of effacing a similar distinction between 3D and beyond. These paintings epitomize what we describe as a place where representation and abstraction can be identical for a certain moment.
